I think you abused the gradients a bit. What is the shark suppose to be for? I don't think the keyboard works in the design.

I totally agree, there is so many gradients used for almost all of your design and its not doing the site any favors. I think the writing in the header could be much bigger and the smaller writing underneath is very hard to read i would say remove that part.

 

For the blog would it not be easyer to use a blog system using content management rather than html. Since you have a knowledge of xhtml and css it wouldent really be hard to template it.
