I just finished reading my first couple of books explaining Dreamweaver to me and have made the basic setup for my first website.

Although I still have a lot to do on it, but would like some feedback on the basic concept and nav. I created.

(orry to post a url without having made 25 posts, but since i am a newbie there is little input i can give to help anybody out)

 

The site had to go live, although not completely finished yet, now constantly changing content and trying to clean up the html.

 

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your website is looking good for a first timer. I couldn't help notice that your website was designed by ISM, is that yours?

 

Anyway, my opinions:

• On Google Chrome, your menu at the bottom of the page is displaying to the left; try putting it in a table and centering it using the alignment tool in dreamweaver.
  
• Your website should be completely aligned otherwise it looks like it's just been done quickly and I think you spent a lot of time on it so I would fix that
  
• The image in the background doesn't seem to be of good quality and it might put people off
  
• And finally, your widget you've used to scroll to the top says 'undefined' in Google chrome.
  

 

I recommend viewing your website in as many browsers as possible.

I am owner of seedism, we sell the seeds for medicinal and recreational purpose, and sometimes as souvenir...lol

 

Designing stuff has always been my hobby but working for the man has made me loose touch with my hobbies.

Since I started seedism four years ago I am getting more time to myself so decided to pick up on designing and art.

 

I hope to get enough skills to get ISM running, btw everything in loife is now an ism and I try to incorporate ISM in any project im working on.

Luckily Internet Solutions and Marketing works as a name with ISM, and a good friend of me is SEO specialist who is going to handle the "marketing" part, another one is developer/programmer and he is going to be the "solutions" part.

 

I aim to be good enough to be the designer of the team.

 

BTW, I have trapped nerves in my spinal cord, especially a lot of problems with my sciatic nerve and cannabis has proven the best medicinal relaxant with the least offensive side effects.

I like it! I think the background may be a little too dark though, makes the whole site feel very dark.

Hi, here's my 'seedback'..

 

Not a bad effort at all for a first site. The code is pretty decent. Missing some meta tags in the header and a few unnecessary line breaks and tables here and there but very good on the whole. Plenty of lists, which is a good thing too. The design isn't the best I've ever seen but it does its job.

 

Decent effort.

If it's pure design you're looking at then it's better than some designers I know of so well done for your first attempt. Yes the background image quality could be better, same with the text background to make it easier to read, but hey it's not that bad really.

 

If you are hoping to market your site and get it found on Google then the SEO is your problem area. You're missing all kinds of stuff that Google uses to determine the relevance and usefullness of your site.

 

The things you're missing are:

• meta tags for description and title
  
• alt tags for your pictures
  
• descriptive text for your links within your body content and navigation
  
• title tags for your links within your body content and navigation
   
  

Without these things you're unlikely to have much chance of anyone finding your site unless you do some facebook advertising or something.

I have not yet learned how to use metatags etc, although it seems to me that they are just some tags with keywords and I can place them anywhere in the head tag.

 

Am i right?

 

I have been reading that i have to be careful with these and too much of it can trigger google to block a site, will read up on this today and hopefully add some tags.

 

Same for the pictures and links, never done this so should be a nice challenge.

 

I must say that in the type of business i get decent publicity through magazine articles and forums, and our name is not used anywhere online so all searches are straight to us or one of my resellers.

I have been thinking about addwords etc. but did some research and there are some major players investing 1000+ pounds per term already so i think could never compete.

 

I dont know if it means anything but since i changed this site recently my rating at ALEXA.COM went from 6.700.000 to 3.800.000, this gave me some positive vibe since this should mean that the searchengines get more query's (?) to my site....i think...hope.

Actually I like the look, maybe my monitor is a little brighter than your. I'm using an LG 22" widescreen.

 

 

Just tried it on my 19" square monitor and it does appear a little darker, also seeing less of the background darkens the overall view.

 

Perhaps lightening it a touch would be of benefit but I think lightening it a lot would make it contrast too much with the text area. Should definately up the picture quality of the background picture but not too much. Dont want to increase loading times too much.

 

Currently it refreshes the page in 0.410second in firefox on a 7.2mb broadband connection. Clearing my cache and loading the page fresh takes. 1.239seconds This is by no means an ice age but personally I'd be trying to reduce this. anyone accessing on a slow connection or a mobile will have to wait a fair while.
