I am currently starting up a online fashion site with a very unique twist. It is a affiliate site but im not really interested in using a affiliate program and would prefer to approach retailers individually im getting some really positive feedback from some big fashion retailers but am wondering how you put into place a system that tracks click throughs and conversions.

 

I have very basic web knowledge and am finding it increasingly difficult to understand this. I also want my users to be able to go directly to certain products. If you know the site mydeco.com it would be similar to that. Any help or advice will be really great thanks for your time

Hey Varlski,

 

Making your own tracking system would take quite a lot of work to get it spot on and most of the big fashion sites would rather deal directly with the affiliate companies than having to deal with lots of seperate websites.

 

It's pretty easy to track links and stuff, but obviously tracking the sale price and return sales would be much more involved. If you are approaching the companies directly maybe you could just sell their products directly through your site and then you have all the sales stats?

 

The other problem with not using an affiliate company is that you have to chase your own money where as they would of done it for you.

 

I'm unaware of an existing affiliate script that let's you become the affiliate outlet. I'm pretty certain it would have to be custom made for you.

Some really good points there! To give you a idea of my site stylehumper allows users to explore fashion styles around the world in the form of street snaps and purchase the clothing they love on others from external websites so i am wondering if i sold companies clothing directly through my site would i be able to pick and choose what clothing pieces i need ? as i am basically creating the look for the users of the site from the street snaps!

 

Im definitely going to look into some affiliate companies now though and thanks for checking out my blog your website looks really impressive aswell

The google analytics would be on the site their buying from, so he wouldn't have access to do that.

Couldn't he set up his own google analytics? or something maybe even using this open source version?

Yep he could, but the sale would go through on the retailers website. There is no possible way he could gain analytic access to their websites transactions with Google Analytics unless he had access to analytics on every site he sold from.

 

It would have to be done with cookies.

Hi guys i know this thread is really old but just to let you know i launched my site late last month www.stylehumper.com . And in regards to tracking conversions we use a service called skimlinks which manages all the affiliate links.

 

Hope you are all well and thanks for the advice last year

 

any feedback would be great we are still in the early stages
