So I run a website for web design and I am currently trying to move up in the SERPS. My site has moved to 6th spot in Google.com but when I switch over to .ca I am on the 5 or 6th page. Do I have to get more backlinks from .ca pages or what is the deal?

Yes, domain extensions do affect the search engine optimization results. Moreover, did you see the results in the same Google results, I mean hope it was not the difference between the global Google searches and country specific.

The info is from two different searches but same keyword. One in Google.com and one in Google.ca.

if the site is geographic, it may be worth the effort. Otherwise you are comparing a green Mondeo with a red one - both the same car, and in the same hands, will perform exactly the same-

So would my next step be targeting sites that end in .ca? I am now ranked 3 for my keyword in .com and 3rd page for .ca
