Hi guys, I have a my first job interview as a junior web designer tomorrow with these and here is their website.

I have already made lots of notes on the design itself and a few on the code (no titles in the nav).

 

On some of the pages the meta keywords are just the description repeated instead of the keywords, how important is this?

 

But yeah, if there is anything else I should be aware of with this site I would really really appreciate any of your comments.

Its a pretty nice design, although the links on the left look a little bit odd with the gaps in between. Apart from that, nice design rich, keep up the work

You didn't design this...you've been asked to critique it - right?

It has a buch of (probably not important) CSS errors.

I did not design the site - it is the site of the company I have a job interview with tomorrow. But also I have not been asked to critique it either, I am compiling stuff as back up just incase they say 'so what do you think about our site'....................

 

So just want to know what you lot think, if there is any way you could make this site better, anything at all, in any way.

Haha I know, don't worry I won't say anything I shouldn't. I just wondered if there is anything else I could know about the site that could help me in some way. If not, that's cool. Im bricking it though - fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

yes, that's what I mean. Not a big deal, I took only a quick look, and it seems to be css3 selectors. Errors on those would be expected.

it was a veeery quick look, but i saw some moz-opacity and filters. Those will not validate in css2. They will not work in all browsers either, but it is a judgment call.

I use opacity, filters, round corners for css3 as long as it is not essential for the site.

ok, well I wasn't expecting to find anything wrong technically anyway - just wanted to have a good understanding of how good the site was before I go in there that's all. Cheers all.

No. 1 is bad enough lol.

I thought so....looks like someone misunderstood you earlier

 

My thoughts are (and these are purely based on aesthetics):

 

1. The side menu doesn't change on hover. Also, the font looks grainy.

2. I would slow the slide images slightly. They seem a little fast to me.

3. The paragraph spacing is a bit poor. This title"Vinopolis Venue Space:" is right next to the header....it should be level with the paragraph to the left

4. Ah - see 1. The menu on the right doesn't change on hover either... I think people expect something to change, even if it's a slight dim/fade

5. I'm not fond of the drop down menu. It seems cramped.

6. The phone number should be more obvious.

Ok, had the interview today, loved the location, it was amazing! Slap bang underneath/in amongst the old rail way arches in London Bridge. Unfortunately, even before the interview had started, it was over. Chatting briefly to one of the interviewers on my way to the interview, he said he was the guy I was to replace - there was only one web designer there - the ad was for a 'web design and marketing assistant' and looking through the job description it read like I would be an assistant to the web designer. But it wasn't. So I knew I couldn't do the job even before we started the interview. I could of done it (probably) as it was 50/50 web and graphics, but there would be a time when things they asked would be above my knowledge base and the same with some debugging issues. Also, I need to learn as well and being on my own I wouldn't. I need to be a junior working along side an experienced designer(s) to improve like I need to improve, so we went through the interview and they really liked me (which was great) and may of even still been interested. But I wouldn't of gone for the job if I knew I were to be their only web designer. I don't think I'm selling myself short, a company as big as that can't have a junior web designer as their only web designer can they?

@futureproof: well.. maybe not..you never know. They have things up and running, so maybe they'd be willing to give you a little leeway. You never know.

Well the thing is that they pretty much offered me the job, they wanted me to want the job. But as I said above, I need to learn as well and working by myself is not something I want to do. They would of got use out of me because of the marketing stuff I've done along with the design stuff, but I'd need help at times and I just want to be around IT people, in that environment really, not by myself, so I turned it down. I'm 90% sure I did the right thing but not 100%.

 

If any of you guys are interested in the job then you should email them quickly.

they'd probably find it scary what i do on the internet as well
