July 5, 201016 yr LYKC Portfolio Decided to move back to part-time freelancing, so redesigned my personal portfolio site to suit, and have just got it live. Have a look and see what you think. All feedback both positive and negative welcome. Currently working on integrating my Wordpress blog, so watch this space! I'm also looking for reciprocal link exchange, so contact me if you're interested. Thanks Leo
July 5, 201016 yr It has got some nice features about it eg, the CV corner and the quick contact drop down box, however i personally think that it doesn't have enough wow factor, i do like certain parts but others are a bit bland and boring in my opinion. I do think the navigation buttons at the top are quite tacky too, im not sure what it is about them but there not my favourite thing about the site. I wouldn't take my opinion to heart about it not having enough wow as it does take something special for me to say something stands out, all in all though i do like it, i just think that you could improve it to make it something more special and make your customers go straight to that contact form and employ your services.
July 5, 201016 yr Author Thanks Richyyy, I appreciate your comments. What would you suggest to give it some more wow? Stronger imagery? More graphics? Do you have any examples of some portfolio sites that do make you go 'wow'? Cheers again! July 5, 201016 yr Well here is a few examples that make me personally go wow http://www.alexcohaniuc.com/ http://adaptd.com/ http://madebygiant.com/ http://www.pikaboo.be/ http://www.creaktif.com/ Everyone has there own tastes and opinions on what they want and like though, so my examples of what i like and make me sit up in my chair will probably differ to other people. I would have a look around on a few sites and maybe take some inspiration from those and see what you can put together in ps, personally i think a portfolio should be the soul of the designer and the sky is the limit as it is what is going to get you the work. Hope that helps though mate!
July 6, 201016 yr I really like the footer image, kind of nice. It just doesnt say choose me I can design what you are asking for. Kind of like Richyy is saying "wow" factor. Some of his examples are great!
July 6, 201016 yr It looks really busy to me; There a moving banner, the nav buttons bounce, there are at least 5 or 6 different fonts in different sizes, buttons on the side, buttons at the top. (You get my drift) I would try and make it look less cramped and more calm. I really like the footer and the contact and portfolio buttons near the bottom, maybe try the same style and color for the nav bar and overall feel of the page.
July 6, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the feedback so far. And cheers Richyyy for the links, I didn't like a couple of them, but the others were pretty awesome! Differing tastes I guess. And valid points MyshMash, I could probably calm some elements down a tad and space things out more. I tried to make my site interactive for the user to make the experience more pleasurable with more feedback. I appreciate that it's not for everyone! Cheers again. Keep 'em coming.
