hey guys, this is my fist ever template that I have made, what do you guys think of it for a 15 yr old?

I will be totally 100% honest with you, as I think that is the best way for any designer to improve.

 

The layout on a whole isn't bad and I can really see the structure working. The colours are a little garrish as red and blue rarely work well together, they are the sort of colours that when you use them together you have to get both shades just right or it will look wrong...so while its great you are being bold with your colour choices maybe look at something like adobe kuler to help you create a colour pallet that flows well together.

 

While centered text works fine with small amount, a large amount becomes harder to so if you have a lot of text align it left so that it flows nicer, is easier to read and sits well on the page. Also with text I think that you should have more fun with it, while you are limited in part to websafe fonts, think and play about with the line height, size, spacings and colours so that you can tell the difference between headings, paragraphs and sections.

 

Finally my main issue with it is that even though it is a template it has no direction, some of the best templates out there pick a subject and go with it, for example a petshop, so instead of the logo saying site name it says "pet shop" then theme the template as if you are designing for that style of site. It makes it easier to deal with and gives it a bit more of a purpose instead of being just a standard no face no identity template.

 

 

I know it might sound like a whole load of negatives, but that's just because I think with a bit of practice you will do really well as there are some nice bits to your design. You just need to think of an topic and design for that instead of thinking of the template as a one design can work for all

This is OK for a first timer, quite good for your very first in fact.

 

Make sure you follow some tutorials to start with then you can begin improvising and making a few of your own decisions. Learning how to design professional websites does not come over night, so make sure you are consistent with it and don't let anyone put you off continuing with harsh words, accept the criticism and move on, this is very important in design. =P

Its not my first site but its probably the first site that I've made thats still (partially) online via archive.org its from around 1996. Keep in mind that its HTML2 and CSS wasn't invented/supported.
