June 10, 201016 yr Hi there, my name is Michael and im 15 years old, web design is something i really want to go into when i leave school, i believe i already know alot of the basics. But i was wondering, can you make a good living out of web design? Im not expecting you to post your own incomes but some examples of figures that can be achieved by working at different levels in Web design would be appreciated. Thanks!
June 10, 201016 yr If you have time, energy and get yourself known out there, potentially the sky is the limit. Not that I've reached that lol! I think you young guys with lots of time and fresh brains on your side (unfortunately for me!) have even more on your side. The guys on here will help point you the right way if you get stuck or need to know where to go next. All the best!
June 10, 201016 yr Well a lot of us on here earn a living from it It's tough but put in hard work to get goof results.
June 10, 201016 yr Working for yourself is pretty much a case of you get back as much as you put in. If you're working for someone else it depends what part of the country you're in. In the south west you're looking at a starting salary of £15k - £18k and a senior salary of £25k - £35k.
June 10, 201016 yr Up in the north, theirs a lot of vacancies for juniors, starting on NMW. That's less than McDonalds A respectable agency however, junior positions tend to be around £12-15k, that i've seen. The top agencies/companies around here seem to always post salaries as £neg. I know of freelancers struggling to make ends meat, to others (granted few) earning £80k+ a year. At the end of the day, if you go freelance, being good at what you do is only a small part of the game. You need a real business mind, ambition, and determination.
June 10, 201016 yr Designing and building web sites is only one path you could take. You could become a Front or Back-end Web Developer, Silverlight/Flash Developer, Search Engine Marketer, Social Media Marketer etc - there are many different jobs that could spin off as your career progresses. The Web isn't going anywhere, I would recommend you go for it. Get that all important first job that offers good experience so you can learn on the job and build up your CV even if the money isn't great, then move on for a better position elsewhere etc etc.
