I am relatively new to web design. Learning as I go along, sometimes paying a high cost for my mistakes, but we all reap what we sow and I accept that.

 

What I would like to ask others whom have more knowledge than myself is this: Are .co domains of tomorrow likely to take off more than the .com .co.uk extensions of today? If so, don't we have a need to go and buy the .co extensions to add to any domain names that we already may own, or we may find ourselves in a situation whereby we may own the .com, but someone else could come along and simply purchase the .co and either hold us to some sort of ransom, or by some way hijack any site or potential site that we may already have?

I doubt it unless you're a big boy and I can't imagine they'd care too much either. Anyone that starts holding you to ransom or setting up a site that tries to hijack your name or business will have more to worry about.

Personally i think the .co domain idea is stupid.

 

I work for a ISP and if a customer said to me my domain is 'blah-blah.co' i would presume the mean 'blab-blah.co.uk'.

 

Where this idea came from to create this domain, i dont know but personally i have been advising work-based customers and personal customer away from them.
