Twitter Confuses Me !

Featured Replies

Hello Guys

I am working on a new WordPress Site and I have bought a theme for it.

When viewing a post the theme has social networking buttons placed at the bottom of the post content. I am confused by all them social networking links ! What actually happens when one clicks on the Twitter button ?

I heard social networking helped in advertising new sites, and so I have created a Twitter account for my site. But I don't really know how it works ! Would I have to manually go to twitter and make an entry for every new post I make ? Or is there something that would do this automatically ?

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this.

Thank You.

I would imagine that if you have a twitter button in your post it would allow a visitor to post a link to that article on their twitter stream, to go from blog to twitter i use twitter tools, which u can find by going into the plugins bit in the back end and searching for 'twitter tools' then in your post panel there is a tick box for 'send to twitter' i think in the twitter tools options there is the ability to enter all the details for your twitter account and weather you want the post to twitter to be on or off by default.

hope this helps

Hi Greigy

So, this Twitter tool is a plugin for wordpress ?

Also do I have any control over how the link is displayed over on people's twitter feed ?

Cause I want the link to be inside the URL BB Code boxes and people only see the title of the post (not the actual link) > it is neater that way.

Thanks

Umm, you post it to your twitter feed and it shows up on that of people following you, but yes, you can control how it appears (you'll have to excuse the fact i have no idea what URL BB code is)

Twitter tools is a plugin for wordpress yes, there are more options in it than i have used explored, but its quite comprehensively documented, so i'd install it and see if it meets your needs.

The twitter button in your profile, i have no idea how it will display on your users twitter accounts, but i would assume there would be some kind of configuration in the theme, and depending how good you are with the code in your theme, i guess you could edit it anyway?

Twitter is absolutely brilliant for learning about web design. I honestly think I've directly found more resources, useful tips and brilliant articles through Twitter than I would have in a lifetime of searching.

You just need to follow the right people!

There's a really good guide to Twitter here:

Arguably, Twitter is massively more accurate in terms of real-time search than any search engine in the world, since it indexes what people are talking about NOW!

Ooh.. there's some people I can follow. :)

I'm only following 5 so far.

And have one follower, lol. Gah!
