Post Present, but 404 Error when Clicked !

Featured Replies

Hello Guys

I am having a weird issue with my new site. I have made a post, but when I click on it, the post doesn't show ! I get a 404 Error !!

I have done some research and I noticed many people are saying this can happen if [ .htaccess ] file is wrong !!

Here is what is currently written in mine:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

I would greatly appreciate some help with this matter.

Thank You.

have you set custom permalinks?

I have this for my .htaccess:

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
# END WordPress

That should fix it...Let us know how you get off.

Ok I've set the .htaccess to what it was before >> Now CSS works fine, but same problem stays.

Yes I have set custom permalinks (sorry I just saw your Q). I have it set as >> /%postname%/

Thanks

Sorry, Ive had this problem a few times before.

Always managed to fix them somehow!!??

Have you tried setting your .htaccess file permissions to 777?

Or. Try deleting the .htaccess from your root folder. Resetting the permalinks to default. Then try the post.

Then, place a blank .htaccess file in your root folder, permissions 777, and then do the custom permalinks.

good luck.

Hi WelshHuw

I just tried that .. again no go !! However when I turn it to default permalinks .. it works !!!

One Question ? Where exactly is the .htaccess located ? >> I'm thinking there might be 2 or three of them !! lol

The reason is when I set the [ .htaccess ] to writeable and changed the permalinks from default to custom and clicked [ Save Changes ] in WP Admin CP, Here is what it says:

notice what it says at the bottom !! even though I have set it to 0777 !!

At the moment I am editing the one for my current theme !!

public_html/wp-content/themes/zenko

Thanks

The one you need to edit will be here, in your root folder:

public_html/

It will be in the same place as the config.php file and the readme.html file.

Let me know how you get on.

Yay !!! It WORKED !!

Thank You Sooo Much.

It is weird though !! There was no [.htaccess] file in the public_html/ !!!

So I just moved that one from the theme directory into there and now it works !!

Thank you Again :clapping:

No problem! Usually there isn't one, everytime you install Wordpress, add a blank one there before setting permalinks.

Glad to help - it's so frustrating!!
