not a bad start, I persionaly don't like the bevils on your content box's and nav. I think keeping it much simpler, say a 1px black border would sit nicely on the background and possibly work on your layout a bit more. tha spacing between elements isn't consistent.

agree on the bevel, also change your picture, get something creative going on there considering what you say about yourself.
