My new design site

Featured Replies

Hi

I am just putting the finishing touches to my new design services website. Still a few things I need to do but before I set it loose on the world i'd love some honest opinons, tips or any other relevant comments.

The url is:

www.abovecreative.co.uk

I'm pretty tough skinned so be as horrible or as nice as you like!!!

Thanks in advance

Karl

Hello, it looks fine to me. Lots of html errors though.

Yeah I know what your saying about a landline number, it's one thing that i'll struggle with to start with as i'm not at the stage to get a dedicated landline yet as i'm still actually working for an established design company and don't really want to put my home landline on as I won't be around during the day to answer it!! Hopefully this will change if I manage to find some clients.

The homepage is now html/css validating, still need to get a few of the internal pages sorted although some of these are to do with some plugins.

This looks like it would be excellent website. Unfortunately I am viewing this at work on IE7 with Javascript and Flash disabled and all the content is all over the place. You might want to check this out :)

Hi there,

Nice design! I think it's probably not suitable really for the market and the customers you'd want to attract but for a web designer it's very nice site and no doubt other webdesigners etc. will like it. Sorry if that seems harsh, just I know most of my customers state that their existing hosts / design companies etc. have sites similar which they can never navigate round or understand.

Another little thing... the amount of scripts in the header area are quite high. If you can combine any I'd recommend it. SEO wise it's slowing everything down with page speeds and Google won't like this.

Hope this helps.

Strange, I had disabled Javascript in firefox (on the mac) to check what would happen and it still looked pretty much OK. Not got a PC to hand at the mo so will check it tonight in IE7. It doesn't use any flash so I guess it will be the slider that upsets the site when Javascript is turned off.

Cheers. All the scripts are a pain, this is a problem when using wordpress plugins although ironically I will install yet another plugin called WP Minify once the site is complete which will join them into one file, never actually used but heard good reports.

Appreciate your comment about 'sites similar which they can never navigate round or understand' but I personally don't think my site is that hard to navigate or understand but then i've been looking at it for the past few months!!!

I've been trying to do a screenshot for you but this stoopid computer won't let me upload it :(

I really love your logo BTW :)

That would be great, could you attach and email it to info@abovecreative.co.uk?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I understand what your saying about navigation and I thought it was relatively straightforward as well. But normally what I think is straightforward and simple isn't to others when it comes to online experiences. I guess the best thing to do it to ask a set of none IT people to look at it and see what they prefer:

1) Transparent nav etc.

2) Solid color nav etc.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
