March 31, 201016 yr Hi, I just want to ask you guys for advice. I got 2 damaged laptops. They've been in my wardrobe for a while. I thought it would be better to try to sell them, rather than throw them away. For one of them, the motherboard is damaged and the other is an old laptop which doesnt turn on. I called a repair shop to see if they would buy it, they said from what they heard, it might not be worth repairing. Are there any other places that would buy these laptops like a recycling company? Any recommendations?
March 31, 201016 yr The one that doesn't turn on, probably needs a new DC jack soldering on to the motherboard (not that difficult, I've done it myself before). If you're not arsed about what you get for them, stick them up as a job lot on eBay. If you want to make a good amount of money, strip them and sell the individual parts. My other half's old Dell laptop was completely dead, but I stripped it and sold all the individual parts on eBay for her. The money that was made was actually more than what it would have been if it were sold as a working unit!

I dont want to fix the one that wont turn on, as I got another laptop that I use and my brother that I live with, has a pc. Are there anyother sites apart from ebay? Ebay uses paypal and I'm suspended from paypal and also ebay as well. There's a good reason for this but no need to explain. Who buys individual parts? Computer shops or some other business?
April 1, 201016 yr You could try local computer shops but they probably won't give you much (if anything) for your laptops. Also, adverts in your local papers might help. eBay is the best place to sell this kind of thing on as you've already got a large audience, but if you're suspended from eBay then I guess that doesn't really apply to you.

I spoke to a computer shop and they said they'll contact me if they ever need my laptops. Hopefully they'll take it off my hands as I could do with the money. But thanks for the advice.
