As web developer for my local city government I do a broad range of city websites.

While we develop in SharePoint (yuck) I found a way to make the microsoft bloat bend to my will.

 

My last site design launched last fall:

I was responsible for the visual design, all html,css,js, and some C#.

 

Again it's SharePoint so validation of either xhtml, or css is inconceivable.

Very nice design. If I was in your place I would add more of aqua-style in the site elements - logo, icons, navbar, buttons. I beleive this style is quite appropriate for such site.

not bad even not something where I could say breathtaking. Some tip from me- maybe you should clear out that gradient background it look like old-school design.
