Wordpress

Featured Replies

Hi, Ive done a site for a friend www.northroadgym.co.uk. He is happy with it, but hes asked me about Wordpress so he can post news messages on the site. Ive got Wordpress installed on the remote server, sorted the MySQL etc and everything is fine. At the minute Im sitting looking at the "Dashboard". Ive read the documentation but Im still lost. My problem is what the hell do I do now??? Is it a case of linking the site to Wordpress or do I make a seperate HTML page for WordPress or am I missing something?

Im totally stumped, so rather than sitting looking at it, I thought I would ask you folks for some advice.

Im confident with HTML and CSS but I havnt a clue about this!!!

Is there any good tutorials for simple people!!!???

Please Help!!!!

ShedHead.

You need to download and install a blank theme (I suggest starkers) for Wordpress, activate it, then start modifying the theme template files to make the theme look like the current design.

The theme template files are found in /wp-content/themes/your_chosen_theme/

If you haven't used Wordpress before, or you're not fairly confident with PHP - I'd suggest out-sourcing the job. By the looks of that site, it would be a small job with a reasonable price tag.

Right, Im in the Edit Themes/Appearence/Editor/StyleCSS.

Correct me if Im wrong but is it just a case of changing the CSS rules.

Also if I want to put an image in the header do I just link it to an image in the hosting server?

Depending on the design, you can just change the CSS. Many designs or layouts require more HTML to be placed into the Wordpress template files to give a more complex look & feel.
