I made myself a website to showcase my graphics/photography.

i like the design very much =) the only thing i do not like is the background image ?? what is it ???

errr....lol. It was just a makeshift image until I sort a better one. It had similar colours to what I'm thinking so I stuck it up.

 

I've changed it now anyway to something more blurry/subtle that doesn't detract from the centre. Still not the final one though, I'm unsure about the background now.

The rest of the info and pics are on now. What do you think?

The website has been updated quite a bit now.

 

Any other feedback? Does the navigation work well?

Something about it just doesn't say "graphic designer" to me. At first glance, I thought you were selling sporting clothing.

 

I like where you are going with the big main images, but they need to indicate where they are going. I was expecting to see something on that picture, instead I got a slew of projects. It might be wise to on the hover to have an indication that it is going to a group of projects, and not one single one. Maybe have the section title turned sideways very transparent on the side of the box (if that makes sense). On a side note... the bird looks likes it has a helmet on, which is very distracting.

 

Also, the dropdowns dont seem to match the navigation that well until you hover over it. Maybe you should have the background color be that blue, and then turn to white on hover. Also get rid of that margin around it. It makes it look dated.

 

It also might serve you well to make a Services page. You would be surprised as to how many people are looking for a page like that.

 

Why do you have yellow on the hovers on your footer? I would think your blue would be much more appropriate.

 

I also don't think you need the validation link. Your visitors really couldn't care less.

 

Maybe you did it on purpose, but the background to your logo, is not the same color as the normal background on the website.

Thanks for the advice, that's exactly what I needed. Some outside input is always welcome.

And I agree on what you've both said completely. So much so that before I'd even read CIBgraphics' post I had already removed the dropdown and the w3c tags.

 

Also, regarding the large homepage pics, I have now added text to them so you know where they are going.

 

What exactly do you mean by a SERVICES page?

 

Hover links are now blue. It does look better so thanks.

 

I've changed the title logo a bit, and its now a png so the background colour is exactly the same.

 

I've also compressed the about and contact pages into one. Both were a little sparse before.

 

Thoughts?
