IE6 warning

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I want to add an IE6 warning pop up on the index page, so that if a user has IE6 the warning will pop up and they have to select continue to load the index page.

I just can't get my head around it though, how can i do this.

Cheers

Hi,

I can't use any of these as i need the user to be able to click to continue loading the page in IE6.

I know of company intranets that view sites i just want to warn them that the site wasn't designed to display in IE6 and they can then continue if they wish.

Cheers

I can think of a clumsy way, but it would work.

First you create another page which is just for IE6 viewers (it could have the same code if you want, but a different filename).

On the main page which is loaded first you have a conditional comment which styles the page wrapper with display: none; and a div for IE6 only with display: block; with a text message and the link to the IE6 page and the IE6 div is before the wrapper div.

The main stylesheet has display: none; for this IE6 div so that other browsers don't process it.

The conditional comment should be placed after the main stylesheet link:-

<!--[if IE 6]>
<style type="text/css">
#wrapper {display: none; }
#ie6 { display: block; }
</style>
<![endif]-->

IE6 viewers will only see the IE6 div with the message and link. Other browsers will show the wrapper div with page content and not the IE6 div.

Hi Wickham,

Thanks for that,

Problem solved, i think.

I adopted a slightly different approach, i've started a new topic about it in case it can be improved or would help anyone else.

Cheers
