It would seem all the good .co.uk and .com domains are taken.

 

I'm finding it increasingly hard to purchase domains of a decent address, so my question is, after .co.uk and .com, what is the next best suffix to use?

Why not try another country tld like http://www.youtu.be and http://www.fo.lk.

 

Next best on the list I would go with .org and .net. .biz, .info and .tel aren't as wide spread as they should be.

use .net or .org ...

What about .eu? how common is that? I'm just thinking from a users point of view... is it memorable?

.eu and .uk.com are very rare to be seen. The only time I have seen .eu is when a company has bought it to stop someone else grabbing it. .uk.com is very rare. The .uk.com is quite expensive too at £70 for 2 years.
