January 20, 201016 yr See attached image. Surely firefox shouldn't be using that much memory! What could be causing this? Add-ons I have installed: - Adblock Plus - Firebug - Fireshot - MeasureIt - Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.1 (what is this anyway? do I need it?) - Norton IPS (But this is disabled, because I cannot delete it) - Norton Toolbar (But this is disabled, because I cannot delete it) I have Firefox 3.5.7 running on Windows Vista, anymore info you need just ask! Really want to find out what the problem is here because I can see that my computer is running slower than usual too, and its a big problem because I use a few design programs which are very hard to work with when my computer is running so slow! Thank you edit: Just thought i'd mention that I am currently downloading one file, although I dont think this should affect the memory usage too much right?
January 20, 201016 yr Yes Firefox much like IE is a bit of a memory monster. Safari and Chrome have lower memory footprints and in my experience run quicker.
January 20, 201016 yr Author Damn, so there's no way to solve this? I have used Chrome before but i'd much prefer to keep my Firefox Plus I cant guarantee Chrome has all of the add-ons I currently use for Firefox. Im so shocked at how much memory its using though, and I already have the Firefox optimizer software!
January 20, 201016 yr Try removing a few extensions because some are known to have memory leak bugs or just be bloated and use lots of CPU time in general. Other than that, if viable, you could always upgrade your RAM (Or graphics card if Firefox's CPU usage is causing rendering to slow down).
