I have an idea of starting a website for everything lol

 

News, Music, Written Articles, Jokes, eBooks, Culture ..etc Pretty much same topics and stuff as the following website.

Before I start planning, I wanted to know what you guys (The Pros) think of the site above. Design, Code .. everything.

 

I'd greatly appreciate any comments on this.

That website looks like it fell out of the 90's it's an awful design with code to match. I can't comment on the content as I can only read english. But if something like that is your competition then you have little worry!

haha OK well I must admit that is a very famous site among Kurds. LOL Perhaps its content is its selling point.

 

OK So I'm thinking of building the site with some sort of CMS. Which do you think I should use ?

Are you familiar with Wordpress (http://www.wordpress.org/)? Wordpress is a very powerful blogging platform, but is more often used as a full blown out CMS than not.

 

Like lee grant said, you don't need to worry about the competition.

Yes I am familiar with Web Design (XHTML, CSS and Basic PHP) but nothing more. Also I can not Dress WordPress themes or Joomla Themes. I can create a theme in Photoshop but actually getting it onto WordPress or Joomla I don't know !

 

I thought Joomla would have been a good choice for the kind of site I'm after ? Why do you think WordPress would be better ?

Wordpress is A TON easier to impliment/manage than Joomla. If you could get the site coded in XHTML/CSS, it's all down hill from there! There are plenty of tutorials to guide you along the way. Since you know some PHP it should be more fun than Joomla anyways!

 

Looking at your 'competitors' website, I can see that it has a blog-like structure, with the navigation, header, sidebar, content with posts, and footer. Wordpress could be just that, or WAY more!

Is the PHP in WordPress Object Oriented ?

 

I have done OO Programing in Java, but not PHP. I only know how to do simple script in PHP.

 

I have subscribed to phpvideotutorials.com I hope they can teach me things that I can use with WordPress.

 

I saw some cool plugins for Joomla. Like this S5 MP3 Player which I was thinking could be great for my Music Section.

 

Does WordPress have something like this ?

That domain is registered at ECOMMERCE.COM with the following nameservers:

You can find this type of information running a "WHO IS" search on the domain. I like to use http://whois.domaintools.com/ but any other google result to "whois" will work just fine. After all, the information is all the same!
