Too many .htaccess RewriteRules?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just wanted your opinion on something. I've made a new site for my client which involved hundreds of pages. The old site used ASP, I'm using PHP, so I'm setting up lots of RewriteRules in the site's .htaccess, as you should do.

My question is, I've currently done 70 RewriteRules, 40 RewriteRules based on RewriteConds, and I'm probably half way to finished.

Isn't this large number of rules going to affect the site loading time, if the browser has to check each rule?? I haven't noticed any real delay, but perhaps it's just miliseconds.

What do you think? How many is too many?

Darren
