Starting a webdesign company

Featured Replies

Ok so guys i was wondering whats the best way to start a freelance web design company and what if your the only person on the team how would you keep up with the orders and demands i've thought about this a lot lately and really wanna do it but don't know if its possible if your the only person on the team so to speak so any suggestions would be helpful thanks.

I'd say it is possible. Think small and don't try to present yourself like a huge corporation.

At the outset, try to establish relationships with other sole traders/early startups that can compliment and augment your own skillset. That way, if you're not a Flash pro but have a client who needs some Flash work done, you can outsource to your contact but keep it all under the one roof. Ideally you want to partner up with others that will need your skills so new work can flow both ways.

You sound like you've already got a load of work lined up! Respect for that!

If you have, it's important that you don't undersell yourself and charge too little but at the same time, you've got to weigh that up against actually getting the work in and building up a decent portfolio (that will help attract you bigger and better clients).

It's also important that you are not afraid to seek advice and help from your peers and more established companies. You're never too young in your business life to start networking and it's amazing sometimes how helpful the so-called 'competition' can be. Everyone has to start somewhere...

We've got by for a few years now on client recommendations and repeat business but now I feel we're established enough that I want to grow the business, take on more staff and generally step up the gears a bit.

We're not quite a one man operation but we do outsource various elements of what we do to other like-minded professionals. Although I'd live to think that this wouldn't be too obvious from looking at my site.

Good luck and be patient!
