Hi all

I am getting presure to get a forum attached to works site, any suggestions at what I should be looking at

forum software etc,

Our host dosnt have one in there package so thats out

Wordpress.org http://wordpress.org/ (not wordpress.com) is frqeuently recommended although I've never used it.

It allows you to style the forum like the rest of your site.

I've used phpBB (latest version is phpBB3) http://www.phpbb.com/ which has themes/skins.

Generally you get all the PHP codes given to you and you just install the files. For phpBB you then use the admin control panel to set up discussion boards, permissions, etc but it may be a bit more complicated with Wordpress.

depends if you have money to spend on one or using open source

Paid solutions

Vbulletin

IPB (this forum uses it)

expression engine (has a module for a forum)

open source

phpbb3

simple machines forum

mybb

punbb

quickersliver bb

buddypress (built by wordpress creators)

joomla (add on needed)

drupal (add on needed)

There are literally thousands available, just go to opensourcecms and test the demo's.

Thanks

Yer im having a look at ip board (seems good for the price)

but as the site is only at test stage at the moment im using Mybb

Mybb seems to have all the features needed so might even stick with it

You can Try Simple Machine Forums or Vanilla or Drupal has a mod for it. I wouldn't suggest using Wordpress for a forum though. Not really made for it. More of a blogging CMS solution 8)
