I'd appreciate a little feedback

Hello!

I've just joined this forum and have seen the wonderful feedback you guys give for designs and I thought as I intend to post a little in this section (for what I can) I'd ask what you people think about my site first!

Here is the url: Howell Design

Now, I know the text isn't too great -- I am not much of a writer -- however I do feel that something is missing within the design (Front page, + portfolio page, not too worried about the contact for the moment!). It is very much a site in beta, so anything can chop and change!

Thank you ever so much in advance.

All I see is a blank page.

I made a typo. How silly of me :)

Edited now! I should learn to check my typings ;-)

Well the main problem is the bright colored background, try changing it to something darker(dark brown, black, etc) and keep in consideration that neon like bright backgrounds tend to make the visitor tired. My suggestion is to read about the color theory so you can learn how colors influences people.

This comment surprises me as I did spend quite a lot of time putting the colours together. Thank you for your feedback! :)

Hi Gemma,

I hope you don't mind me saying but I'm really not a fan of the green colouring - it has a slightly 'sick' colour to it and doesn't sit well over the background colouring. There's a clash of textures which doesn't work for you. The nav text is too large and would work better over to the right, instead of over the logo.

I agree - no offence intended but the background image is a little similar to sick, were you aiming for a cosmos sort of look?

Try adding more contrast with nicer colours (try Kuler) think it would help you a lot.

Also just a heads up - the page doesn't validate.

1.the first thing in my mind is the menu font size on the menu are too big.

2. the header image edge looks very fuzzy. Re-export your image, if you export your image as gif, add matt color around the edge will give you smooth look. If you don't understand what I am talking about, check out this tutorial.

3.second I think the portfolio thumbnail need to be changed, as user can't get any infomration or preview from the thumbnail.

Thanks for your feedback! I'll take the colours and textures into consideration :)

Cosmos, sort of. This layout started off as a little warm up, but I ended up liking it so nothing was planned out. Thanks for the link though! I shall check it out.

I agree with all your points and will work on my layout :)

I do agree with just about everything thats been said...

color scheme, menu font, logo edges. pretty much all that stuff they're most-def correct about in my opinion

...but, now with that said. I like where your taking it. It is definitely in need of polish. Regarding the background, I believe you should tone the texture down a bit. make it more of an ambient presence behind the main content of the site. This mixed with a new color palette would do wonders for your design.

Also on the flower and such, try to use a bit more variation in color. especially on the flower...a flower is only as pretty as it's surroundings, my friend.

Basically, I believe I see what you are looking for...something like this? (the defaul site, not the "coming soon" page.

Possibly not as bright.

Keep it up man!

KritikSS thanks for your feedback. That is similar to what I was going for, but as I said earlier it was mainly just me playing around. I think I've begun to create a brand for myself, and wish to develop it further but the task of creating a new layout is pretty daunting at the moment for me with no pc to work on.

When I get a new pc I shall put everyone's feedback into a new layout and see if I can do one better than this! I am still quite proud of it though!
