Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but as you can see, I am new around here.

 

I have been asked to make a front page for a forum by my nephew. This is my first project. I want it to be prefect, but the thing is, it is far from it.

 

When I uploaded it to 110mb, It seemed fine to me, as I had been previewing it on my own computer. The thing is, It does not work for most other people.

The problems I have heard people say is The login/registration which is fixed in the top left corner is hidden behind the banner. I have heard people saying that the information about the announcement such as the "title" and "date" has merged into the paragraph.

 

I'm also going to change the enter banner, as It is too distracting.

It depends what browser people are viewing it in. Whilst it may display perfectly in lets say Firefox, it may render horribly in Internet Explorer. What you need to do is test it in all browsers, and keep fixing it until it renders perfectly in all the major ones. These would be IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari.

Thanks, but I have already done that, and it seems its not the problem. I think it is because of the various computer screens.

 

I have had an idea though.

 

I used px for margins and absolute alignment.

 

Is that a bad idea?

Why don't you just add the login link in with the normal document flow? you don't need absolute positioning

I prefer it fixed in the corner. And I'm hoping its going to work when I start using percentages.
