August 16, 200917 yr I finished Uni a year ago now and all through uni and till now ive just been doing part time retail jobs! Ive just went for an interview for a part time web design/developer job and im really excited but nervous too! The job is to basically update 3 websites and one of them needs re-designing (Currently using OSCommerce) Im kinda worrying that if i do get the job I wont be able to manage it! Obv lack of confidence and doubting my skills! The course i did at uni was good but it was a more general Interactive media course and did bits of lots of different things rather than a lot on one area! Also currently the employer out sources the work they need doing and decided it would be cheaper and easier to hire their own staff for the websites. I cant work full time due to hospital visits due to my Arthritis in my knees and would prob be too much long term right away! and ive just got a job at a supermarket and started 6 weeks ago! If i get the new job and leave my current job and it doesnt work out ill have no job! eek! But getting this far for me is a big achievement as i havent been able to do much over the past year due to my arthritis, and if i dont get it at least its made me more determined to improve my skills at home and make more of an effort now!

Leaving full time education and entering the world of work is one of the major life changes you'll have, and naturally you'll have doubts. So there might ne one or two things that you won't be able to manage at first, but this is where your education will start to pay off - hopefully your education has taught you the basics to solve problems that are thrown at you! Don't be scared to acknowledge you don't know something and ask for some help, your employer knows you're fresh out of school so they won't expect you to know everything! If i get the new job and leave my current job and it doesnt work out ill have no job! eek! Welcome to the world

Depending on what they are offering pricewise, it might be worth speaking to them, and having them split part of the work between you and outsourcers - especially if you cant handle fulltime. But becareful, as some people wouldnt like this. Does he have 1 company he uses alot? if he does, im suprised they arent offering a better rate. Be honest with him about your knee, and they should be fine. Do the hours for the webdesign and supermarket conflict completely? the supermarket may be able to let you reduce your hours slightly if needed (depends on which company it is) Reaper
August 17, 200917 yr 1st risk of your life? 1st time you have had to make a real world decision? Awesome huh, nothing makes you feel more alive. Just jump, without a safety net you won't be able to quit when the going gets tough and you will be forced to learn how to take risks. If you don't do it you might never do it, I know 100s of people who just took a summer job in a factory and ended up being there for 20 years 1 for 45 years!! What a waste of life.
