Hi I have just built my first website and have also purchased a domain name and hosting for a year. I have got Fire FTP to transfere and upload the site to my host but have no idea how to do this. Can someone help me with this ie talk me through it?

Your host should have emailed your FTP details, try checking your email. Then it should just be as simple as entering those details and uploading everything to the public_html folder.

I also recommend trying Filezilla by mozilla, its my favourite ftp program and its free!!

Agree with user gfxpixeldesigns Filezilla is a good FTP program.

To clarify the information you'll need to enter to upload/download file in your FTP program is:

ftp host (usually something like ftp.domain.co.uk)

ftp username: supplied by your hosting provider

ftp username: supplied by your hosting provider

default directory: public_html (or some other folder specified by your hosting provider)

ftp port: (usually port 21 and its usually filled in by default)

Also, it's a good idea to switch to Passive FTP mode in your FTP program, this can speed things up in the transfer progress.

Some instructions as to how to enter your FTP details into FileZilla can be found here.

Obviously change the details to the ones provided by your host. If you can't find them, you should be able to raise a support ticket or email them and they can help you out.
