July 15, 200917 yr Hi there, I have dipped into the Wordpress pond for the first time and have created a site for a client. What they want is to have the Home page static, with a few photos and a brief introduction to their site which I have managed to do. They then want the latest post headlines to appear on the left hand side along with an events calendar. All good so far, I have all this. What I want though now is a link in the top navigation bar (using oriental theme) to say 'Latest News' and it then show all the posts that would normally be on the home page like a blog. I have messed around with the 'Reading' settings to no avail. I thought if I created a new page, put the static content in and call it 'welcome' for example and then point the static page settings to 'welcome' and the posts page to 'Latest News' that this would work but when I do this I still get 'welcome' in the links accross the top and I want the user to click 'Home' to see my page. Any advice most welcome. The tutorials I have seen all say different things and some are for older versions of WP
July 16, 200917 yr Hi, By going into the Reading settings and making 'Welcome' the front page and assigning 'Latest News' as the post page it should just do that, what ever content is in the text editor of the 'Welcome' page should appear as the homepage(static) and clicking on Latest News should return all posts. I am a little confused with the navigation, is it because you have called your page 'Welcome' thats what appears in the navigation and you want it to say Home? Does 'Latest News' appear in the navigation and that links correctly? For me personally within the header file I have manually setup the navigation rather than using wp_list_pages. So just like a normal html navigation within <li> put <a href="<?php echo get_permalink(39); ?>" >Home</a> for each link, where it says "39" change that to the number corresponding with that page. To do this go to your Pages within the admin and roll your mouse over a particular page and look at the bottom of the browser it will reveal a link and within that link a permalink number, use that. Hope that helps
