Free host with my own domain?

Featured Replies

I've was talking to my mate yesterday and was asking him what host he would recommend, when i told him i want to host a porfolio for uni he suggested using a free host and then getting my own domain to work on it.

how would i do this? and which is the best free host to choose?

thanks

www.110mb.com is by far the best free web host, you can use your own domain and the 110mb one,e.g. yourname.110mb.com & www.yourname.com

you only get 110mb of space (enough for just a portfolio) but can pay $5 i think, to get 15GB of space and another $ for 1TB of bandwidth, $5 for ftp access (they have an easy to use file manager tho)

In my experience, alot of cheaper hosts are relatively unreliable. You can probably get a half decent hosting package (including domain) for £20 a year though.

If it has to be free, i tend to use freehostia. Adfree, but they werent the best for DNS.....

Thats actually quite funny :D that you trust us more than him, but take him up on his idea, kinda like somebody telling you the best way to earn money is to rob a bank, but then asking other people the best way to rob a bank...

Seriously though, all joking aside, is the website in question suitable for a free host?

I mean, if its a portfolio for yourself, some free host's may put adverts on your site, some just cap the traffic at really really small amounts, then you have to pay to get more and others can just be unreliable, so being a portfolio, I guess it depends on how many and who you will be showing your portfolio to, as to how important you will regard the hosting.
