Resizing and resolutions

Featured Replies

hi,

how do i prevent the layout from breaking across different screen resolutions and when the window is resized?

I'm not sure how you mean break. Layouts shouldn't break depending on whatever resolution you use.

If you used width: 100% or sometimes if you haven't stated a width for a container and then used widths in px for elements inside, or included images which had fixed widths, then when you reduce the window resolution it is very likely to break the layout when fixed width elements don't have enough room in a smaller width (100% might then be only 500px).

Either code every element, side margin and side padding in % and size images in % OR use fixed width for everything when you will just get a scrollbar in a small resolution, but the layout should not break.

Having said that, modern browsers (not IE6) can be coded with max-width and min-width for elements like divs so that you can control the layout in smaller or larger resolutions.
