May 7, 200917 yr Hello.. I have a customer who would like to have it when people visit his site that he has a start page with say his logo and then click here to enter.. Whats the best way to do this? Surely you dont want it as an index page because that needs to be the page behind and have all the main info on.. Hope im talking sense! Any help would be appreciated.. thanks Paul
May 7, 200917 yr Surely you dont want it as an index page exactly. Perhaps you could persuade your client after visiting http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-convince...d-a-splash-page. Google 'seo splash pages' and see what floats. Obviously this is my opinion, perhaps some SEO experts can list pros and cons?
May 7, 200917 yr Author Ive warned him about the risks but I think he is still quite keen! arrghhh! So do I have to make a splash page the index page? Thanks, Paul exactly. May 7, 200917 yr Besides bad SEO it's also bad usability and a complete no-no. Anyway, if you must, make it the index, then perhaps do a page refresh so that it automatically moves on from the splashpage after a short duration. Not sure if others may agree with me but just my 2c.

Thanks, Paul If you want the splash page to be the first page that the viewer comes to then it will need to be the page the site goes to when the domain is typed in. So if that means it is index.(whatever) then the splash page will need to be called index.

So if that means it is index.(whatever) then the splash page will need to be called index. You don't have to make that page index if you dont want. What if they decide to not use the splash page in the future. I guess it wouldn't be too hard to change but the easiest way to set your splash page as the default page for your website would be to edit the .htaccess file Add this line of code to your ".htaccess" file [just change the filename to whatever yours is] DirectoryIndex splashpage.html That way you can have your main content page still as index
