Ninja Dog...

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Been playing with some ideas for a new digital media site named Ninja Dog

Thoughts...

Excuse the iStock watermarks, I didn't want to buy the shots for a mock up, if I pursue with the idea then I will either buy the shots or get custom illustration sourced in :)

Cheers

haha, love it, you should so roll with this, would love to see it in action :p

Cheers guys - I definitely plan to run with this idea but I want as much feedback as possible on how to make it as good as possible :)

More comments please :p

I like it, really like the illustrations... especially the wee face in the bottom right :D

Only two things I would bare in mind:

A) How will portfolio screenshots work against the cartoonie background?

B) How will the site scale vertically?

Oh and is the header/menu font in comic sans?

In terms of changes, i'd consider changing the background, to something more subtle, as it kind of detracts attention away from what's important.

And the hover/selected state on the nav lacks contrast with the background, but other than that, i loves it (:

Cheers guys

@ madcatjack - no no no it is deffo not Comic Sans ;) lol - it is a open type font called Kung Fu. I thought it seemed appropriate.

Any portfolio work will be integrated into the design (not sure how just yet, but I will find a way) and in terms of vertical scrolling, I will probably knock together 3/4 different length scrolls and use them for different pages depending on the content. I am intending to keep it quite short really...

@ Bocaj - what did you have in mind for the background? Any ideas...?

Also, I know the hover state lacks 'umpphff' at the moment, I need to work on that really :)

Under the link Ninja Stuff (to be renamed Ninja Training) I am developing a series of little Ninja Training games in flash. Things like Keep your balance, count how many balls there are... basically like the mini games from Wario Ware :)

I am motivated :) haha

I guess the menus and headings will be images then? Just bare in mind the SEO impact ;)

There's plenty of image replacement techniques available to solve that, so it'd be ok (: although they all have pro's and cons.

Check this article: http://www.mezzoblue.com/tests/revised-image-replacement/

Yeah they probably will be images, but using Font Replacement rather than just straight images :)

I always prefer to use Font Replacement to get nice Headers / Menu if they fit in with the design, I have fallen into the trap of always using 'normal' text for my menu's and it really detracts from the design in some cases :)

Cheers

EDIT: Bocaj beat me to it :)

Great link by the way Bocaj, that is a really nice FRT article

Cheers :)

Hmm that's interesting - I'd always considered those sorts of techniques as black hat. According to the google article they are not. Quite quite interesting...

No no, there is nothing black hat about font replacement mate - it is a well used and legitimate technique :)

It is really useful for projects like this :)

Cool :) learn something new every day :D

Sorry but I really don't like the ninja font. Could just be me though?! I see why you would use it, but although I get the concept, it looks less professional.

Background is a bit intense - maybe tone it down a bit?

I really like it. Wouldnt really change much myself, maybe the background on the designer, but then again, im not quite sure what to change it to. It does take the eye away from it a little too much, maybe lower the opacity slightly?

Cant wait to see it up and running. Looking forward to it Tery.

The background looks like it was meant to resemble bamboo, but the tones seem a little dark to me, although, if you make them a lighter brown, it'll match the foreground too much.

I do agree, the background needs to be more subtle, but as to what to do with it, i have no clue :p

I am thinking of changing the design slightly anyway; using the holding page as a rough guide (see link in post above) I will play about with different colourways and loads of ideas on how the site should function.

I really want to create an outstanding and eye catching site - something where the user will say "F*&^&K ME! That is cool!"

So I have a great starting point with a great name, now I will look at a variety of 'unique sites' for inspiration :)

Any ideas / comments / feedback on the existing design or the holding page then please post them :)

I really like the holding page at the monent, the design is very nice indeed, the whole idea is very well put together _ im struggling with the bamboo side of things on the main page but im sure thatll come to you
