April 23, 200917 yr What do you guys think of single page web sites that have the vertical scrolling effect on (Mootools for example). I'm thinking of using it for one of my sites. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to using this type of layout? Are there any issues with SEO? I'm thinking of it as I want to show off work but don't have much content - intro, contact details, etc I saw a really nice example recently (some dutch design company) but can't remeber where so I don't have a link for it. But from what I can remember it was a mix of flash and css.
April 23, 200917 yr Personally I really like them, my site is (just about) single page www.peter-pearson.com and has worked well for me. They make it nice and easy for visitors to quickly see who you are and what you do. Although my site might not be the best example of this with the rather empty first page and main text and the very end. In terms of SEO there are some issues, a single page website is likely to appear less important to mr google than a site with more pages/content, so make sure the content you do have is as refined and as optimised as possible. You can still include quite a lot of text on a single page using 'read more' jQuery scrollDown boxes without making the page look too text heavy. If your design is strong I definitely think it is worth submitting to all the web design galleries out there, there are absolutely tons of them so theres a good chance you will get into a few. They have really helped me pull my site up the google rankings. Lastly, its worth thinking how you might want to change your site in the future. I would now like to add a blog to my site, but figuring out how I will incorporate it is tricky. Ideally it would be on the front page but I can't do that with out some big changes to the design. Best of luck!
April 23, 200917 yr I think one page sites can be pretty good, you've just got to be concise with your copy. Mind you, I might be biased as I just redesigned my own site in a similar way. If you're mainly showcasing work then it should be fine. Here's a gallery that will give you some ideas - onepagelove.com

That site needs optimising for 'single page web design', it comes top for 'one page web design' but is no where to be seen for single.
April 23, 200917 yr Author Thanks both for the input. Some really nice examples on that site - thanks for the link. I think I'm going to put together a mock up of what I want to do and take it from there.
