Hi there!

Hi, I'm new to web designing and hope to learn a lot from this great forum. I'm currently teaching myself the art through online web-tutorials and would like to know whether I should do any formal courses later on.

Hello, and welcome to the WDF :)

As to whether or not you should do any "Formal" training, I guess it's completely up to you. Some people require the whole "Structured" learning method associated with learning at college etc, whereas others prefer to learn in a more relaxed environment, and learn better when left to their own devices.

There is no right or wrong way. Go with whatever is easier for you :)

Hi and thanks for the speedy replies - I'm really excited about finding this forum and have already found a few old threads that touch this topic. Time to start practicing - based on what a lot of people have been saying, I'll try and stick to getting HTML and CSS understood first. :)

Hi Greenlily, welcome to the forum. I learnt on my own, without any formal training, and I think I'm pretty good.

Hello and welcome,

I studied basic html and css modules at uni but most of my web skills are self taught, im going to do a photoshop course in Sept, I think thats a good package to be skilled in for me! I think you should do a course that interests you

Matter of opinion  Just kidding.

Welcome to the forum.

Personally everything i have done has either been selftaught, or with the help of people on here, although as had been said, some prefer the more structured training. When it comes to getting a job, alot of employers like to see a degree in design or something similar, but the people that actually know more about webdesign will be looking for a portfolio/experience.
