April 2, 200917 yr I'm thinking of setting up an HTML email inspiration site - something similiar to all the website inspiration sites out there, just solely for showcasing particularly nice email bulletins. I've only seen one site like this before. I was wondering how many of you would use something like this? I make 4 or 5 of these emails a week at work, and am always on the look out for inspiration. I'm not sure how many of you guys work with them though? Also, does anyone have any ideas how I would find attractive emails? I was planning on mass registering a dedicated email address with a load of the big firms and trawling through it on a regular basis. The site would accept submissions as well. Not sure if there are any other methods? Any suggestions for a name would be appreciated as well Thanks!

I've had to do a fair few in my time and it's like being in the 90's... tables for layout, inline CSS, email clients worse than IE6 (fcukn Lotus Notes grr).. basically everything we were taught not to do, lol! How would you showcase them? Since most emails are through opt-in. The markup/css or just an image of the mailer? A good idea for sure, it's always good when you find a relatively untouched niche. Good luck! Tell me about it, they're the bane of my life! We (stupidly) don't test in Outlook 07 as the company refuses to shell out for anything above Office 2k.. it's scary thinking about what the majority of our mailing list receives... The great thing about email bulletins is they dont rely on any external files (apart from images), so it should be pretty easy to just pull the HTML out of the email client. I need to look at the legal side of this tho.. might end up just being a thumbnail linking to a lightbox with a larger version. I really need to sit down with a pen and paper and work out a proper plan..
April 3, 200917 yr we don't look at outlook 07 either! It doesn't help that we are still on outlook 03, but at the moment, 07 usage is pretty low... http://fingerprintapp.com/email-client-stats most emails from larger companies come with a link to an online version, so maybe you can provide a pic plus a link to this online version? Have you ever had to cater for Lotus Notes before? I'm glad I don't have to anymore but for my previous company, I'd rip my hair out trying to understand why it renders so inconsistently! What a PITA!
April 3, 200917 yr Author That's not too bad then, I was worried it was higher than that. Yea that's a good plan actually, then I'm not having to store anything other than the image on my end. Avoids any legality issues as well. Luckily not, we only test in outlook and some of the major online email providers - hotmail, gmail etc. I've heard some (very) bad things about Lotus Notes
