April 2, 200917 yr Hi, Can you give me advice? Situation: We want to launch soon a marketplace for blog designers and clients. Clients post a project and interested designers can bid. Then clients can browse through the online portfolio of the involved designers and chose on of them. At this point, the client has to pay a fee ($20) to us, after that he gets all contact details from the designer. The designer has nothing to pay and just doing work, if he is chosen by the client. Do you think such a fee is ok for clients? Or is it too high, is it too unattractive, or will it simply not work? Any opinions are welcome. Thank you very much!
April 2, 200917 yr Have you had a look at sitepoint? I think you would be better charging a %. Some clients will have a budget of £xx, some will have £xxx.

Yes, charging a % would be better and fits always to the budget, although it's a bit complicated to keep that system setup and running?
April 2, 200917 yr I don't see any reason why it would be more difficult than charging a set fee. I definitely agree with bensd on using a percentage.
April 2, 200917 yr It would definitley work. Your main problem is going to be getting the ball rolling in the first place. If you have no designers registered, people wont want to add their projects and if there's no projects, designers wont register.

We will work with that probably. To get the ball rolling is a problem indeed. I think we could "collect" some interested designers upfront (hopefully). Then asking for a handful clients in forums offering special rates, so there would be at least some projects before doing advertising. I don't have experience with projects like that, so it will be a learn process.
