Virus on my website?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had an email from one of my clients saying that he's had a couple of complaint that people clicking on a link from my website to his, gives them a virus. Is this possible?? and if so, how can I see what virus I have and how can I get rid of the bloody thing!!!

Any help appreciated

Unlikely, normally a virus has to be downloaded first, they can self execute however. Email clients, and some browsers have been known to allow (not intentionally) download's to remain secret through various exploits.

It is however unlikely. Have you asked the hosts if they can double check for any security breaches? Perhaps try clicking the link whilst monitoring the http activity? (encase any third party sites are being called?).

Other than that i don't know, it seems unlikely. And what's there definition of 'virus?'. The first time my dad saw a screensaver, he was convinced i'd broken the pc.

@jamieclock - make sure your pages aren't calling scripts from other sites (cross site scripting). I noticed a script to a site called 'godspedalpower.org' had been added to my code once. Still to this day I don't know how it got there.

****! Also just noticed, when i find my website link in google, (www.clockwork-design.com) if you clck on the link, it tries to take you to some dodge page (http://blackpornmix.com/in.cgi?4&parameter=sf) What's that all about???

Has anyone seen that before or know how I can fix it!!!?

Help urgently needed.

Thanks

I was going to suggest that it maybe something to do with certain virus checkers giving you a false positive i.e. it says a good file is bad, when it isn't.

However, you seem to have another problem if you are being redirected from your website - can you login to your server and check your files? ~ (any added any changed)

If you've been hacked, maybe worth speaking to your provider and get your passwords changed
