March 26, 200917 yr Anyone know how this works? I tried on a few sites and got mixed results even for sites that were up. Sue I would imagine it just tries to get the web page and returns the web server response (200 OK being up). The only issue is, you're then relying on their site and their network to be reliable, which, as you've seen isn't perfect. The way to do it would be for them to have more clever solution that collates results from multiple locations, but I don't think it does that at the moment.
March 26, 200917 yr Aha, i always post that link. How've you guys not picked it up alread!? Ideally you'd want 3+ locations, your computer would be one, that server would be the second. Then you'd just need a third location (a foreign friend or something). The sites by quantcast (i think), so they'd have the capabilities to implement something like that, i just very much doubt it would be financially viable. Maybe someone else has taken the initiative somewhere else though You can ping server's from your pc (windows button + r then type cmd.exe then in the command console type ping followed by the i.p address) that's normally how i check my sites regularly, you could write a simple batch file to allow you to check multiple servers with a single (well double) click. Whether some server's prevent pinging or not, i don't know, i've never come across one that rejects ping's, but my knowledge on servers isn't even near beginner [/ramble] Anyway, as i said 3+ locations would be ideal to check whether a websites running.
March 26, 200917 yr Sorry just saw this. I host 30+ sites with CS and didn't notice any problems on the 24th.
March 26, 200917 yr We did have problems on the 24th with an application pool on 1 of the servers, however only a small number of customers would have noticed this. Thanks, Carl
