Link to fill in login details

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I want to be able to login to a website without having to write in my username and password each time...

How do I create a HTML link that when clicked on, it automatically fills in the username and password field on the site I want to login to, without me having to do it?

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Kind Regards

Lewis

Hi again.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?

Its always done on software sites where they give demos of the admin pages and it fills in the username and password automatically.

Please help :)

Thank you in advance!

Kind Regards

Lewis

If you are using firefox just type in your name and password and click remember.

If you are not using firefox I HIGHLY recommend you upgrade immediately, it is fast, extensible and most importantly, free.

Hey,

I'm still looking for a solution to this.

I'm not sure if I explained myself very well in my first post.

What I need is a link that takes me to a login form on another website and fills in my username and password, so that I don't have to type it in every time I go to their site.

For example, if google had a login form on www.google.com and my username was Lewis, and the password was 123456, I'd want a link that was similar to:

http://www.google.com/user-Lewis:password-123456/

(that obviously works).

I know companies that design shipping cart systems do test logins so you can see the admin panel, and when you click on the link, it already fills in the username and password, however, I can't find one of these sites to copy the code.

Can anyone help with this? Or can it not be done via a link?

Regards

Lewis

Oh,

So you want to have 1 username and password for the test area?

If thats the case, then it's easy.

Just get your form....

<form action="login.php" method="post">
<input type="test" name="username" value="setADemoUserNameInYourDatabaseAndPutItHere">
<input type="test" name="password" value="setADemoPasswordInYourDatabaseAndPutItHere">
<input type="submit">
</form>

When they click submit, it will verify (provided you have the right scripts in place) that there is a demo user that exists and will let them log in here.

Without knowing your exact login method, it's kind of hard to say exactly what will be the fix.

Also, NEVER send a username and password through the address bar like domain.com?username=this&pass=that

This is one of the worst things you can do in regards to the security of your site. Just don't do it.

agreed, do you mean you want to create a login with the values already there for a sample account?

Or do you want to be able to set up a range of links to various sites where it'll automatically put you login details in?
