January 20, 200917 yr Hey all, I would like to get some feedback from you, just recently started up my own website to promote my work. It still has some flaws and I am not quite finished yet but would grately apprieciate feedback so I can hopefully improve it further still. Many regards Dave
January 20, 200917 yr Author EDIT: LINK! Yeah soz about that dizi, trying to do tooooooo much all at once:P
January 20, 200917 yr Hi Dave, I like the simplicity of the site, There are a few things I would personaly change, the background graphic in your container cuts of rather abruptly where the container ends, so would probably move it over a bit as at the min looks a bit odd. The images behind the buttons are a bit distracting, people with vision impairment might struggle with them a bit, an easy fix is to turn down the opacity and make the button image more subtle. More of a personal taste issue this but I will mention it anyways, I really dont like the header, the font just doesnt look right and the lettering with no padding at the top and bottom just dont sit right to me. When navigating to your photography section you then have to choose a topic to see the photos, I think most people would expect to see an example straight off the bat. One other thing your site has a Mailto link which is wide open to abuse I would see about getting a php contact form. On the plus side your site (sort of) validates, 1 warning but easily fixed, and I think your less is more aproach is definatly the right direction just a bit of tidying up here and there to make it a bit more cohesive.
January 20, 200917 yr What are you trying to say with all the patterns exactly? there's pattern texture in your header image which makes the text 'online portfolio' difficult to read - but that might also be the font you've chosen too. You've got a different pattern on all your nav buttons too and then you also have another style of pattern within your main content area which is a little overpowering and adds nothing to your content. None of these patterns complement each other so what you've created is a mish mash of textures which just makes me want to leave. All in all a very uninspiring website.
January 21, 200917 yr What are you trying to say with all the patterns exactly? You'd be surprised some people like patterns! But yes it may be a little too much use of patterns in the header area.
January 21, 200917 yr I would watch out for the email address on the contact page...it's gonna get a lot of spam if you leave it as text or a mailto link. Some people choose to do it as an image, or have a contact mail form on the page.
January 21, 200917 yr Author Thanks for the feedback so far guys really appreciate it. Would be nice to get a few more review but can't have everything in life. It is a work in process and I agree I do need to try to link together with the theme, it's something I will have to work on. I'm not happy with the banner at all, it was something I was toying with the idea at college, but it isn't anywhere near how I wanted it. Just couldn't get it to work right. As smooth said about selling my photography, that could be something for the future, Great feedback Cheers all, Dave
January 23, 200917 yr Hi Dave Nice website :-) I think you should be more specific in your text on the front page. Don't explain how to navigate on your homepage, we all know about that. Be more specific about who you are and what is going on, and make people interested - if you understand what I mean ;-) Cheers Oliver
January 23, 200917 yr Hi Dave I would use the same colour on the links. I think it looks great and you have sold yourself very well indeed I may add. Was that missing link a ploy.. LOL Good luck and enjoy the website.
January 23, 200917 yr <!-- var username = "email"; var hostname = "domain.co.uk"; var linktext = username + "@" + hostname; document.write("<a href=" + "mail" + "to:" + username + "@" + hostname + "?subject=title>" + linktext + "</a>") //--> I use that for email addresses, just change the "email" to whatever comes before the @ and the "domain.co.uk" to what comes after the @ and then ?subject=title to whatever you want the email title to be, and it will display like a normal clickable email link. But spam bots (almost all spam comes from bots) run with js switched off, only sweat shop spammers will be able to use it.
