Could someone please recommend some good web design software for a novice.

I might be living int he past but I like working with text boxes when building a site from scratch. Is this still possible and if so what software would you recommend?

Thanks for any help

i don't really know what u mean by working with text boxes surely one just uses them when appropriate. y don't you try dreamweaver or expression web or look up a list of html editors on wikapedia!

Yes man - Dreamweaver will certainly help as a reference but try and look in the code view.

HTML Editor and Notepad++ are good for Windows

Coda is good if you have MAC!

:)

you could play around with seamonkey and get a feel for it... after all it is free linky here

Though i do own dreamweaver, and it is handy at times... but nothing can beat notepad and good old hand coding.....

oh i forgot...

Thanks Emmi.

What I meant with the text boxes was that I like nice simple text boxes in text boxes kind of thing. I've played around with Trellian, Kompozer and Pagebreeze and they are all pretty decent but don't use simple text boxes. They seem to use forms instead which I find a bit trickier as a novice.

I'll take your advice and have a go.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to WDF, Bluenose.

Don't tend to use WYSIWYG editors myself (assuming that's what you mean by 'working with text boxes'), but for alternative suggestions to Dreamweaver (some free of $$$) try this..

Good luck.

For someone who's fairly new into web design I wouldn't reccomend dreamweaver. Quite complicated and can add bits of code in you don't want. I use Editplus, which is brilliant. http://www.editplus.com
