August 25, 200719 yr Hi, Some sites have an IP address instead of a www.____.com address. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I called up fasthosts - i use them for hosting/domain - and asked them about this today. They said that my site has an IP but it is shared by several others so it's not possible to go to my site directly through it. Thanks for the help!

August 25, 200719 yr this depends entirely on your host. some hosts offer a DNS address of something like dns123.1and1.co.uk, whereas others will tell you your DNS in terms of a fixed IP. If you do have a fixed IP, then you can offer your link as such. If you do have a fixed IP, but don't know what it is, you can ping your site. Start -> Run -> type in "cmd" in the command prompt type ping www.yoursite.com it will say "Pinging hostname xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" the x's are your IP adress.
August 25, 200719 yr but penguin if it's a shared hoster that won't work because the virtual host on apache wont know which website to load. As mentioned he needs a static ip address. I'm sure fasthost will sell you one. I've got a static ip but that was for my ssl
