I'd like to create a drop-down menu but don't know how...

Featured Replies

I have a website I want to add a drop-down menu for. At the moment the site uses a basic menu that only links to a page with sub-menus. Here's the site so you can get a better idea of what I'm trying to say:

My Website

I'd like to make this into a drop-down menu (like the one here) while retaining the exact appearance it currently has.

How can I do that?

I've been looking at AllWebMenus PRO but don't really know how customiseable it is (plus, I'd prefer not to pay extra for what could be free :unknw: )

I was also wondering would Flash be an option and in using Flash am I alienating any users?

I've been wanting to make this change for a while now and would really appreciate any advice on moving ahead with it! :)

Hi Niall,

see Stu Nicholls' site at http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/final_drop.html for a drop-down horizontal menu that works in all browsers. It doesn't use javascript, just CSS. View source to see how it's done. The CSS is inline and commented...

Because it's just CSS you can style it any way you want to.

Thanks very much for the quick reply rosiesp! :D

Will it also work for this menu when I'm using GIFs?

At the risk of sounding stupid, can you please tell me how to get the code?

Right click and select view code, or your browsers equivalent.

Thanks caraewilton!

I've been working on that code but can't seem to make some changes such as the width of individual cells and chagin the colour blue to black.

I'm working with this one as well to see what I can come up with.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to be having much luck at all with either code. I can format correctly using the latter code but here are some of the problems I'm still having:

  • I want the main menu item (HOME, HISTORY etc.) to stay the same width, but when I hover over it it changes because I changed the width of the drop-down items
  • I can't duplicate the menu for another drop-down list

Here

The 1st code

The 2nd code

Something else I tried but I can't remember where I got the code from

Sorry if I'm not making a lot of sense here but I really hope someone can help.
