Hi,

I've just started taking a hobby for the last ten years a bit more seriously, purchased some books and learnt what I've been doing wrong for a long time (namely using tables to design). Anyway enough of that!! Could you take a look at this website that I've just uploaded. It's nearly there just some css to add to the Jobs In Progress page to put before and after onto the images. Any comments would be grately appreciated, nice comments would be cherished and loved.

its very nice and retro, 10 year old books would do that to you

 

its very brave that you used textiles in web design, this is somthing i never see anymore you have almost pulled it off

 

i think the only fault i see is the borders are not evan, the one at the top of the page is missing and some of them have doubled over with other borders to produce an overly-thick border

 

i know people will critisise the unevan clashes in colour and textiles but i think it is a good home-made look for the kind of business you are representing, very hand-crafted and made with love, just sort the borders out and its great

 

Oh and i was going to say a lighter shade of yellow, but i noticed that is to match the textile colours

This was delibirate as you can see there is no border at the bottom only the sides...

and some of them have doubled over with other borders to produce an overly-thick border

10 year old books would do that to you

I've been tinkering with web design for 10 years the books no where near that old...

 

CSS - The Missing Manual, Thanks to Paul @ BOAGWorld for that CSS and HTML, Content and Design etc. and SAMS PHP, MySQL and Apache as have to do a CMS Gallery for another site next.

 

Yes even though it's 'retro' it's what the client like after 3 design refreshes.

I would recommend

1.

a different color than red for your title

 

2.

the wicker texture would fit better as the website background rather than inside the main part.

 

3.

use the website background cream color as the center content background, rather than the yellow, its not easy on the eyes.

 

4.

reduce the size of your font on your links on the side bar, it will look more professional, oh and dont make them all caps. its like your yelling click here.

 

Just suggestions, hope this helps, the concept and chairs are great!

I mean there should be,

 

when 2 textures clash without a border inbetween them you get a very edgy effect that is very unprofessional..

 

actualy i would say with fixed borders, some more space inbetween the different div's..

 

 

like is said i dont come across textures much so i have little experience in making them fit together smoothly

Hi, I've just had a quick change around. I don't think the wicker bg looks good as a main bg for whole of page so have left it as is. Some minor changes as suggested and a few of me own too. I think it looks a little better. regards stu

i think it looks alot better with the bordersseperating the 2 textiles, but maybe it should remain centre
