Now look, I posted before about someone using this forum to try and poach my customer from me and it's happened again.

I am confident it is someone (different) from this forum now. As before, was within 24hrs of asking for review of web design.

So, took a different approach. I sent them an email stating their services weren't needed and I was currently redesigning.

I also pointing out their example linked in their email had 51 validation errors so suggested checking their work before using as example.

I received an email back basically saying they shouldn't be using my services since my design was basically crap!

Am I bad? Did I do the wrong thing. I am angry now and want to WHOOP some ASS!

Just commiserate or something please guys :)

 Besides being totally rude, they seem to operate in a very sneaky and sleazy way... :o

Is there anyway to report companies like this one?

i am confused, what happened? you posted a site on here for review and someone done a mock up and sent it to your customer? is that right? if so did you get a deposit? also, do you think you should maybe hone most of the basic skills on make believe sites before you move onto ones that represent peoples businesses?

They sent a link to their 'first' (only?) site.

The company I am 'serving' are receiving their services for free, but that's what they have offered too.

Here is the email annoymous-ified

Hi.

My name is BLEEP and I am a freelance web designer. I'm currently trying to get my foot on to the web design ladder by building a portfolio and I am willing to offer you a free refurbishment of your website, no charge included whatsoever, just a graphical update and a few coding changes.

If you are interested in the slightest please don't hesitate to contact me via this e-mail address or you could give me a call on BLEEP. Here is how I feel I could improve your site.

Provide a more blended and clear style, and a more pronounced banner. I can also add mail-to forms which allow the user to email you via the web browser, preventing them from leaving the site and having to use Outlook.

For an example of my work, you can visit BEEP - a website i created for a local company and it was the first site I produced.

Thanks very much for your time.

Funnily enough, I have said on this forum recently that those changes suggested are what I am making....wierd huh?

BIG co-incidence.

Thanks for your replies - MUAH!

No, like I said in the last one it is classed as cold calling/emailing...only this time the person doing it is using forums to get their lists. Its just like when you get a phone call from someone trying to get you to switch your gas supplier or buy a new door, you don't have to say yes to them, but they try and try until someone eventually says yes.

Whoever is doing this obviously is a really bad designer themselves, after all if they need to scan around forums and try and poach clients away from another designer...obviously no one wants them based on their own merits. Maybe we should all pity this person/design team for being so desperately in need for clients, that they need to do this to get business, obviously the people who have used them in the past don't think they are good enough to keep a working relationship with them or give them a good reference to their friends in need of a site...poor designer maybe they should be the ones evaluating their skills rather than other peoples.

Yes Dizi I know as always the sensible voice :)

I just needed to let off some steam. We newbies should stick together not stab each other.

I will not name and shame tho because I AM above their level :) (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)

I remain ever grateful to the many lovely members of this forum and spit in the direction of the fickle, gitbag rude poo faced ....what other words can i use? ....ones that come and go like smelly toe creases...WAHAHA! (Evil laugh!)

Muah!

Well I guess they have a bit more of an excuse if they are trying to build up a portfolio, but still once a no has been said to say that the design is crap, that is unacceptable.

Although should this person read this, I think it is a little stupid to email people based on the reviews and feedback section...these sites already have designers creating the site for them, thats way the designers are posting asking for reviews. So why not try the looking to hire section and see people who actually need designers, rather than people who obviously don't

Yes I agree.

I need a portfolio but I promise you all I will NOT poach! Unless you poach me first he he...

Edit: 200 posts - look how loyal I am :)
