Website layout not displayed at all

Featured Replies

I’m designing a website for a friend and I really need some help. I created the website using a template that I downloaded online and modified it in Dreamweaver. When I view the website on my computer at home using Internet Explorer it looks fine, but when I look at it in a different browser or on a different computer the pages are all wrong. Basically, the whole lay-out is gone! The website can be viewed on www.fredsanders.nl. To get an impression of how the layout should look like, take a look at www.fredsanders.nl/index_fredsanders.html. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the first link, you are linking to stylesheets that are on your computer

<link rel="stylesheet" href="file:///C|/Users/Catty/Webdesign/Tidy_Blog/css/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="file:///C|/Users/Catty/Webdesign/Tidy_Blog/css/print.css" type="text/css" media="print" />

Change these links to

<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/print.css" type="text/css" media="print" />

assuming that your css files are in a folder called css.

I'm not sure how dreamweaver works, but if there is a css file used for styling it needs to be included in the same file as the html pages you have created, or else referred to accordingly.

Do you understand HTML or CSS?

I can explain more, but to be honest I just don't know how dreamweaver deals with the styles etc that you have created.

Could you post some code from your html files so we can see?

Hope this might help....

OOPS! Elanman faster than me lmao :) (Didn't see the link hidden at the end :/)

ElanMan,

Thank you so much. I did what you said and the layout is pretty much as it should be now. However, I noticed that the text that should be in the middle of the page isn’t centred anymore but starts some way down the page runs through the left hand column. Any ideas on how I could fix this last problem?

I agree, when you look at the pages, both of them have a problem. The thing is, when I look at the second link in my browsers, the page looks right (see attached file)

The text in the middle is in the correct position (centred above the footer). I see the first link the way you see it, which is obviously wrong. Any ideas on how I can get the text to stay in the middle and not jump to the left?

It seems as though I've been able to fix the problems. Thanks for all the help.
