Hosting Recommendation

Featured Replies

I'm kind of a newcomer to professional hosting, so any advice is apreciated.

I require the following:

500 MB - 1GB Webspace.

MySQL Database.

PHP Support.

Decent Bandwith per Month.

I'd also like to host some MP3 files (self produced - no copyright issues).

The website will mainly be for a digital portfolio of visual and audio work.

I don't want to spend mega bucks on this, and I want something reliable and fast.

The best I have seen so far is primehosting.co.uk - £25 per year, 500MB webspace, 25GB per month.

Anyone used them before?

That much space and monthly bandwidth for that price is a good indicator that your below the "Good quality" range... If they are going to provide you with 25GB of monthly bandwidth for £2 a month, they will be overselling services.

Its just plain number crunching of how many customers per-server will it take to make a decent profit, then if they are colocating, maybe they need 25 accounts to cover just the colocation costs, then they need wages and bills such as bandwidth, electricity etc etc, and then there has to be some profit left to put aside for future upgrades and company growth...

so with 25 accounts doing 25GB each, your server will be dishing out over 500GB of bandwidth per-month just to break even..

Doesnt sound so appealing when you look at it in detail...
