Is it obvious?

Featured Replies

HI

You may have seen our new site www.matmi.com

The problem we had with it that hardly anybody could find the lever at the top, which lifts the lid showing

funky little hidden bits inlcuding mini invaders etc.

We have now given a finger (behave!) to make it more obvious.

Do you think it makes more sense like this? Is it obvious what you can do?

I appreciate your feedback.

Jeff

Jeff personally I think its a too fancy solution to the problem I'd consider 2 link options 'raise move / lower movie' just below it

Pottsy

I don't think I would have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it...

Like the site though, very cool :)

Yeh I suppose its the balance between design and functionality. I do not want to make it really obvious, just an area where people will stumble upon.

Have you noticed all the randon heads at the top of the lid?

When you click the lid up, you can see a monkeys legs. If you put the lid down, you can see a random head poking out of a hole. We have many heads, see which one you get. We have Sooty, Hellraiser, Smash Robots, Tommy Cooper and many more.

I still can't find what you're talking about lol

Have you managed to find the lever?

look for the finger

Brillant site... i found the finger... because i was looking for it...

Maybe make a pop up when loading saying 'Find the finger and pull my lever' :$

It's a kid's site! :D

If you think it is an important part of the user experience, maybe if the finger was holding a sign saying 'click me!' would do the job! The finger isn't obvious and you will struggle to come across it if you didn't know about it. That said, I think it's great when a site has hidden little extras. It makes for a richer, more interactive experience where users will click and explore all over the site to find more. Nice site by the way :good:

Thanks for your comments.

Can I please ask why you think its a kids site?

My apologies! The first thing I notice when browsing websites is the design and imagery. The colourful, playful nature of the background and all your wonderfully cute characters in your header led me to assume that it was a games site for kids! I didn't actually read your copy when I posted that review, but now I have, I see my error :blush1:

... which leads to my point. Businesses should make it clear and obvious what they sell otherwise users can misunderstand!

Maybe they saw the cartoon and games and thought kids.

But there are some big kids (like me) that still get excited on disney sites.....

I personally love your site,,,, :D

Thats what we wanted. Our traffic comes from game players and businesses. Clients who find us already know who we are as they have either come from a search engine, press release or a link on previous work.

The game players come because they want to play games.

I think we achieved both quite well.

There are a few tweaks we need to do but overall I'm pretty happy with the site.

I think the level is a little more obvious now.

The site has changed a quite a bit. We are currently redesigning a new games section. Not happy with the current.

We just finishing a site for Bob the Builder. I will post it next week.

Cheers

Jeff

have to say the design is wicked! love your use of colour and style and it is certainly a fun site

Not obvious at all!!! Needs to be several times bigger, currently blends into the background far too much.
