October 17, 200817 yr How do I add my first clients website to my website so they can have a look. I have designed their website it is sat on my Hard Drive and was done in Dreamweaver, only 4 pages. Do I save their websit on my websites server and then add a link on my website ( makes my site messy I feel) or is their an easier way?? Please advise as I am New to Web design and loving it.....
October 17, 200817 yr You could upload the client's site to a sub-directory of your site. They would then be able to view it with a url something like http://www.tempestmedia.co.uk/customers/clientname, with no need to have links from your sites pages. Adding a sub-domain for the directory could give a url of clientname.tempestmedia.co.uk, for example. You will need to amend your robots.txt file to stop the sub-directory being crawled.

Hi you can do that or just add their site to your server and dont add a link just send them the url that is directed to their future site or why not just get a free hosting plan and use it for showing clients
October 19, 200817 yr Author The free hosting plan sounds great. I do not have enough experience to amend the robots.txt file yet so would definately look at free hosting, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you very much. October 19, 200817 yr Hi if you intend to make a living from webdesign and the clients keep asking to see the site while it is under construction you may wish to invest in a domain name for just showing clients their account, settiing a meta tag so that it would not get indexed.if you google free hosting plans i am sure you will find many but you may get adverts etc on the page.

As you say you have a webserver, I would create a subdomain and host it there, something like customer.yourdomainname.com.
October 20, 200817 yr Put all client sites in a sub dir and give each dir a client specific user-name and login.
October 20, 200817 yr Author Thank you for the assistance. I will try your suggestions out and post a link so you can see if I am doing the directory correct. Put all client sites in a sub dir and give each dir a client specific user-name and login.
